Constellation
I don’t remember the last time I stared at the stars and I think I have forgotten the joy of looking at them. Perhaps the bright city light at night and the giant buildings hide their glitter from my eyes or maybe it’s me who ignore them.
It’s been a long time, indeed.
When I was a little girl I rarely missed the chance of staring at the stars. I think, in a little village where I grew up, no light could beat them. The place was far away from the sparkling giant buildings. The only big buildings found were a church and a mosque without so many lights as the heart of believers coming at night is more than enough to shine those buildings.
When I was little, stars meant hope, a simple hope for a little girl to go outside, to find Orion and Crux. I knew where to find them.
It’s been a long time, indeed.
This night I found myself lost under the night sky. I don’t remember where to find Orion and Crux. I don’t even know what the stars mean to me.
If you look at the sky tonight, perhaps we are staring at the same constellation. You know what, when we look at the stars, we are looking at the past as some of them were probably dead as their lights reach our eyes.
I want to tell you a quote from Exuperey, “People have stars, but they aren’t the same. For travelers, the stars are guide. For other people they are nothing but tiny lights, for scholars they are problems….”
I let them be a mystery. How about you?

I am really enjoying reading your new posts. Like you, when I was a kid, I lived in the country where the only lights worth paying any attention to were the clear, sparkling stars. I was never much into astronomy and never really knew which stars were which (except maybe the North star, and the Big and Little Dippers). But the stars filled my imagination and helped me to remember how vast the universe is. These days I want to go to a place where the stars are as visible as they used to be and photograph them moving through the sky.
REPLYI miss talking to by the way. Hope you have a great day...
Thank you Doug, I am enjoying reading your comment too. Wonderful isn’t it, perhaps the stars in the dark silent night always bringing a deep impression to children and somehow some of them make it to their destiny, astronomers. We are lucky to experience such moments. I am looking forward to see your pictures and maybe you can find me my stars. Tell me how the night sky out there, the Jakarta’s night sky still too bright to make them clearly visible. I miss talking to. U2 (not Michael Jackson) have a great day..
